Chess 251 - Amazing Games of GM Tal and Nezhmetdinov!
Hi everyone!
It's International Master Mac Molner here again for Chess University. Our second "Amazing Games" Chess will feature two very special players known as the best attackers in the world - GM Tal and Nezhmetdinov!
Course Description: GM Tal is known by many chess players as the best tactician - his sacrifices are both infamous and stunning. Nezhmetdinov is a much lesser-known player (he was never awarded the GM title even though he won 5 Russian championships). I would consider him to have attacking games that level Tal's! Using some of their most beautiful, merciless attacks, we can better develop our own abilities to use the initiative and active pieces to find the best way to break through the enemy king in different positions. We will use their examples to help hone our own instincts on when - and how - to find devestating sacrifices and combinations.
As Tal said of Nezhmetdinov, "His games reveal the beauty of chess and make you love in chess not so much the points and high placings, but the wonderful harmony and elegance of this particular world."
When: The class will take place on July 28th, 2012 at 10 am Pacific Time.
Level: Chess 251: Amazing Games by GM Tal and GM will be open to players in the rating range of approximately 1000-1500. If you fall above or below this range, you are still more than welcome to join.
Course Breakdown:
Tal: 60 minutes with pauses for tests and training positions during the game(s)
5 minute break
Nezhmetdinov: 60 minutes with pauses for tactical tests and training during the game(s)
10 minute review and question session
You will also receive a PGN of more games by these two players to work with after the course is complete.
