To provide competitive and fun games for all players.

Method

Through negotiation between teams, set the pairings so either team has a chance of winning the match. This means registered players will be judiciously cut to even out the pairings. This makes it more fun for all.

Group eligibility is restricted to players who make moves efficiently and complete games without timing out excessively. This makes it more fun for your playing partner. To join the group a player's time per move average must be 11 hours 30 minutes or less and their timeout ratio must be 9% or less. If a group member's time per move average subsequently exceeds 12 hours per move or timeout percentage exceeds 15% that member will not be eligible to play.

A minimum 50 games completed gives a somewhat reasonable assurance a player's rating and time per move average is reliable.

Possible Options

1 - Each individual set of opposing players be within 100 ratings points of each other. Approximately half the players on one team being the higher rated of the pair and approximately half the players on the second team being the higher rated of the pair.

2 - The sum of all individual ratings for each team be within 100 ratings points of each other. Approximately half the players on one team being the higher rated of the pair and approximately half the players on the second team being the higher rated of the pair.

Option 1 would generate the most interesting individual games as players would be close in strength. 

When option 1 does not work, option 2 could still be implemented. There could be big ratings differences in pairings, but the match overall would still be close.

Practical Outcome

Unreliably rated players and timeouts make it all moot. Still it is supposed to be all for fun anyway so just play no matter who you get paired with.
