I personally think that it isn't any king of chess like playing in a real board, against a person in front of us!

I can't understand how can be people who prefer to play in a computer than in a board! It isn't so much stimulating!

I'm curious to know who voted 'against the computer'? I for one did.

NrthrnKnght, that's what it means by email/correspondence chess.  That includes 'online chess' here.

It's rather silly of me, but I actually get intimidated playing online. Which is why I prefere playing in person.

Otb, of course.

What is better than playing with someone else on a board?

Even better, because of chess i manage to know a lot of people, a lot of new places (that if it wasnt by chess i wouldnt go there), make some new friends, etc...

Otb is indeed the most enjoyable way of playing chess. Of course correspondence and live chess are also great, but not as good. You can make some friend in chess played online, but unless they meet at some ocassion, they will be "online" friends, people who we really dont know but still we trust in them enough to start some conversations, etc..

The last  option is just bad. If you are in one of those, can i ask if you really like chess? I mean, someone who says that likes chess, but doesnt want to play, doesnt make much sense. About playing computer is bad(in my opinion), i mean whats the fun of playing a machine? The computer moves are very automatic, its chess yes, but without the emotions behind it.

When i play, i really want to win, enjoy the game and put my personal mark on it. So all of my moves represent my character. The computer moves are the exact opposite.

I understand why people prefer OTB. I enjoy it when there is a chance. But online chess is more convenient if you are practicing. Because of online chess, I am able to find chess players at different skill levels from all over the world, and play with them every day. Getting this much of practice opportunities would be impossible over the board. Allowing me to play/practice as much as I want at my own pace and schedule is why I prefer and enjoy online chess. I hope this answers the question of " How can people prefer online chess"

I prefer playing OTB at the Club too many monkeys online who disconnect to avoid losing and behave badly.

They should create a skype of chess.com so we can be more personal with players, recreate the OTB setting, and yet play people we never would be able to play otherwise!

playing with a real person is quite fun, you get to meet people and they can easily teach you stuff
