It must be changed because Online is very generic. Change it to Online Correspondence Chess (OCC) or simply Correspondence Chess.
CorrChess sounds short and good
I've been waiting for the name to change for a long time... "online chess" is extremely redundant. Of course it's online! And "live chess" is online just as much as "online chess" is!
Erik, did you ever have any intention of changing the name? What was the point of this poll otherwise?
It's pretty clear the world and his cat prefers to call it "Correspondence Chess", since "Online Chess" is non-informational, and it's been called correspondence chess by the rest of the world for more than a century?
What is not clear about this?
So well after a year of this and 3.5k votes it seems that we want it to be named "correspondance chess".... Why is it still "online chess?" To be honest, when I first joined the site I believed "online chess" was what this site refers to as "live chess!"
It's basically old school correspondence chess for the modern age so that should be it's name IMO. Better than nay other name at least....
When it will be named correspondence chess?! Online chess is a bad name ... Its like when they didn't have a lot of online games yet and put the term "online" just to tell that it is so technologocally advanced
And it doesn't make any sense that a chess website (!) should put new names to things already named ... who knows, perhaps chess.com has lost some chess players because of the odd "online chess" ...
just call it "other"
Yeah! - I only agree ... Quite the pointless survey topic then, too. So maybe 'it' should just be renamed 'Vacation Chess' - i.e. literally forever[!], so to speak - as 'that' would not only be more apt, but perhaps put 'it' more in line with what the average chess player has to go through with [towards 'hopefully' getting to the next round] in most of these 'online' tourneys here.
And that's the way 'I' see it! ...
This poll was started back in March, 2012, and is still active?
Almost half of the +3000 ppl voting agree on the name change.
Perhaps it should be renamed "glacial chess" to reflect how long it takes to change the name.
netchess or net chess (net meaning internet)
how about just plain chess
A year in the making, this poll seems pretty conclusive by now:

Have a good life with yourself AllogenicMan. Don't ever change.
Well I vote for 'Allogenic Chess'! - and that's my 'last call' ...
AllogenicMan, that's enough. Please calm down and show some respect to others. Pompous is just the right word for what's going on out here, and I'm just sick of it.
Now were we 'speaking' to you?[!] ... Besides, I don't see anything aptly posted by you attributable to the subject 'here' in question - other than merely [trying] to 'provoke' some pointless 'debate' (perhaps hidden somewhere[?] - within but between 'you[!]' and that [ever-expanding[!]] deep cavernous void between your ears - huh? ... ), in just 'what[?]'ever you were trying to 'get at' ...
Maybe 'here' then, you could better bide [all that 'retirement'] time into better use via not only coming-up with one or two of your own personal suggestions for renaming 'Online Chess' (say, as in perhaps [an aptly put] 'Woodpusher's Chess', or even say, 'Seniors' Health-Plan Chess') - but towards more efficient ways in effectively dealing with 'those people' such as yourself - instead of 'fuddy-duddying'-around an' all with those sloughs of cross-word puzzles takin' over your noggin ... say, perhaps before Alzheimer's catches up with 'you[!]' ...
So, then - "You t'ink 'bout doin' 'dat!"
A*log****Man, I don't think it would be possible for you (or anyone else for that matter) to act more pompously and arrogantly as you have in this forum. Why don't you take your attitude elsewhere (unless you would like to attempt to increase your Pomposity Rating).
