I enjoyed the free (3 per day) Tactics Trainer on my phone but signed up to premium in order to use Chess Mentor (my vote) which is a fantastic resource. I can tell the other resources are great but perhaps when I am better at chess.
I like tactics trainer but chess mentor raised my rating by at least 400
i like useing all 3 The Tactics trainer chess mentor, an computer workout, I learn more that way Ill work on tactics then mentor. an follow up with the computer workout. the articles are awesome as well
Tactics trainer because is the free one, I believe that the one that helps the most is the chess mentor
I don't have the video feature so I have to go to youtube. So far tactics trainer has been the most helpful because I'm too lazy to study.
But, I Find Videos (on Youtube) By The Staff, very helpful. i get to learn new games, experience the thinking ETC.
Some Have Limits So you dont get the full effect on chess learning.
This survey is very misleading.
Tactics trainer is akin to shooting freethrows in basketball.
Video lessons and chess mentor are like having Bob Knight by your side teaching you basketball.
I misread the question -- I thought it was "which do you use most often", which would be the tactics trainer just because it's the easiest to access on my iPhone.
But the ones I value the most are the chess mentor, followed by the videos.
The chess mentor is extremely good at pointing out the pluses/minuses of different variations, etc., and does it in an encouraging way. I love it.
One thing I hate about the tactics trainer is how discouraging it is. It seems to dole out more punishment than reward. Getting one wrong will cost 10, 20 points, but getting one right will usually only net less than 10. I try to ignore the rating and just focus on playing, but still.
You all guys (whole staff) do great job. I´m 37 and is difficult to get some trainer in our country. Most of them are focused only on childern. So especially training schedule as the whole I appreciate very much. Video lessons and strategy course are valuable most for me. Thank you very much!!
For me, video lessons are the most valuable. I'm an audio learner so watching the vids is more enjoyable than reading articles. My two favorite series are Live Sessions and Pawn Structure 101, both done primarily by IM Danny Rensch. Those videos have helped me view chess differently then I ever have before. I have begun to enjoy chess in a whole new way recently and I really think the vids I watch are why.
But TT is a close second. I use it daily, but I think the vids have taught me new concepts.
tactics trainer doesn't give you principles, only moves. chess mentor, video lessons, and articles help you understand the reasons behind the moves you make.
Lots of members without paid account vote so this is why chess mentor recieves so little votes.
I think TT got max votes, because tactics trainer is the only one which has atleast something free...:D
I am a little surprised at the results as they stand at the moment and I expect that the Site Managment must be a little worried with them. The Site is sold on Chess Mentor as being the main reason for joining. Tactic Training as least as good can be had for free on other sites but Chess Mentor is unique to this one. Perhaps Chess Mentor needs looking at? maybe starting this with Opening Training? Perhaps also taking it at a slower pace? I for one have found that it gets past my standard very quickly and that I find myself out of my depth - perhaps food for thought?
I chose the articles, but would have gone with the Game Explorer if it had a bigger database of top level games.
The thing about tactics trainer, is that... you can get those things on other sites. But the articles, heck those are good. Chess.com got quite brilliant ppl writting them, although i admit, the thing i use the most is TT... the others... i dont have the access due to being cheap/student.
For me it is not possible to make a clear decision. So I did not vote. If I vote I want to say the truth, but here I can not. Tactics Trainer helps me to see patterns, Articles show higher concepts and help to make plans, Computer Workout shows me what I have overlooked, Chess Mentor shows my weakpoints and helps to fix them, Video Lessons are like articles, Explorer helps me with lacking ideas in openings.
It's called 'Live Chess'
