A hundred chess players met to compete at Washington Middle School on January 16th for the MLK Jr. Day tournament.  It was the largest chess event in Hawaii since 2015, even larger than the 2022 Hawaii Open!   Thanks to everyone who attended and gave their opponents a good challenge, and maybe a chess lesson also.

The winners of each section were undefeated.  Benjamin Kim (5-0, K-12), Kyle Ching (5-0, K-8), Kevin Ching (5-0, K-5), Echae Kim (5-0, K-3), Nicholas Muschek and Igor Dmitriev (4.5-0.5, Open).

Team results can be viewed under the "Individual-team standings" dropdown option at SwissSys.  A huge Mahalo to Ed Seid who did a massive amount of work before and during the tournament, giving us a new and improved registration system in the process.  Mahalo also to Sean Lopez who volunteered to be the TD for the Casual Quick Arena games, which were especially popular with the younger players.
