1000 ELO Series: The Revival
Introduction
Members of The NSPCL, I hope you've had an awesome week!
At the beginning of their lifetime was the chess player. The chess player didn't know that the knight, which many called the horsey, moved in an L shape. At another time, the chess player had to understand that castling is a safe bet. Another rule they had to learn was en passant and grapple with why it could be a good rule.
With time, the chess player then became a chess enthusiast. This chess enthusiast then learned what a fork is, even though they had probably done it before. The chess enthusiast then watched GothamChess, as much as they had no idea where to pinpoint New York City on a map. The chess enthusiast then played chess with their mother, only losing on purpose at times so that she would stop saying "you're cheating."
The chess enthusiast may have gone on to be World Champion, Candidate Master, Regional Champion, the "I won 10% of my games" person, or been the individual guy on the street everyone knows is good at chess. Meanwhile, a rare few discovered something called The NSPCL on the web.
The moral of the story is that at the end of the day, we had to start somewhere, and for whatever reason, it is that you like chess - do it for that and let go of the rest.
Therefore, this weekend, all our U1000 ELO players in Blitz and Rapid will have the chance to do exactly that together in the 2025 Revival of the 1000 ELO Series of The NSPCL.
Order of Events
The tournament format consists of three (3) events:
- We start with the Rapid Roll Arena open to all NSPCL players with a Rapid rating less than 1000 on Saturday.
- This stage will then be followed by the Blitz Roll Arena, open to all NSPCL players with a Blitz rating less than 1000 on Sunday.
- Next week, the event culminates in a best-of-three match series between the Rapid Roll Champion and the Blitz Roll Champion, with a play-off between the second-best players from each lobby if a single player is the recipient (winner) of both Rapid and Blitz Roll Championships.
- This play-off and final stage of the revised 1000 ELO Series tournament format will be known as the Clash of Champions, with a series of coin tosses being used to decide the order of the deployed time controls.
