2022 Georgetown Chess Club
Well it was an impressive undefeated performance by Darryl West that allowed an easy tournament win for him. In perhaps the game of the tournament, Mr West created a pawn nightmare on the Kingside in his final game vs Mr Van Buren. This allowed Mr West huge advantages in time and tactics and eventually led to Mr Van Buren’s resignation as his 90 minutes was close to expiring. Mr Tolis also had a strong showing with a 2 out of 3 point showing securing his share of second place honors. (Someone check his rating!). We all think it is headed way north of his current posting. All in all a lot of fun, I finished somewhere in the lower half losing to the above two mentioned, and will be trying to schedule my 1/2 point byes when I see I’m about to matched up with them. Don’t forget to let your tournament director Mr Van Buren know by Monday at noon that you want 0.5 points for not playing and you can get points for not showing up one day of the tournament. Now that’s what I call friendly competition!
