
2022 WA Class Championship Results and Pictures!
This past weekend, November 25th - 27th, Washington Chess Federation hosted the 2022 WA Class Championship at the Redmond Marriott. Over 150 chess players participated throughout North America including parts of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Utah and British Columbia (CAN).
The tournament was directed by Senior TD Fred Kleist. The Thanksgiving Scholastic was directed by Coach Lane Van Weerdhuizen, in which 127 juniors participated on Black Friday November 25!
Numerous fun side events including the Carol Kleist Memorial Adult Swiss, Puzzle Solving Championship, Workshop for Girls and Women, Chess960 (Fischer Random) Championship, G/45 Championship, and "Knight Time" Blitz rounded out the immersive chess experience!
There was also a chess inspired art exhibit by artist Gabriela Osias and a magic show by Magician Rich Waters.
Results of the Master section:
There was a four way tie between David Zhou (USCF 2000), Pranav Kurungod (USCF 2103), Anoop,
Ananth Gottumukkala (USCF 2018), and Ryan Min (USCF 2041) with each player scoring 4 points.
Expert Section:
James Wei (USCF 1937) won the Expert section with a score of 5 points.
Class A, B, C, D & E Section winners:
Brent Baxter (USCF 1931) won the Class A section scoring 5.5 points.
Travis Olson, Daniel Wilke, and Michael Shapiro each scoring 4.5 tied for first place in the B section.
David Hendricks, Arlo Breslauer, and Ramesh Kumar each scoring 5 points tied for first in the C section.
Abhinav Mishra scoring 5.5 points was clear first in class D section.
Adam Hard scoring 5 points won the class E & unrated section.

Magic Show!
Last but not least, this event saw for the first time two Chess.com City Ambassador for Seattle face each other! Luckily the game ended in a peaceful draw after a four hour battle
