A Warmup Chess Puzzle!

Greetings everyone!  Due to the holidays, I know a lot of us have taken a short break from chess, so I thought I would give everyone a quick warmup puzzle from the book "100 Endgames You Must Know"

This is a simple and very important endgame to know. It is white to move and the question is: can white promote the pawn?

But the real question is: how can you quickly figure out the answer without having to go move by move?
