(Sum up from this: https://www.chess.com/news/view/fair-play-team-estimates-cheating-rate-titled-tuesday. )

The recent Chess.com Fair Play Team report tell us more about cheating rates in Titled Tuesday events. Here are the key findings:

  1. Estimated Cheating Rate (ECR): The estimated cheating rate in Titled Tuesday is almost always below 2%, but generally greater than zero. This means that while cheating exists, it involves only a small fraction of participants:

  2. Actions Taken: From March 20, 2023, to March 19, 2024, the Fair Play Team closed 1.1% of Titled Tuesday participants for cheating that occurred during the same period.

  3. Overperformance vs. Cheating: Overperformance alone does not necessarily indicate cheating; it can be explained by natural variance. However, by calculating surplus overperformance, the report provides the best estimate of cheating occurrence in Titled Tuesday.

  4. Closed Accounts: Among players who overperformed during that period, 3.6% were eventually closed for cheating. For players who never overperformed, only 0.7% were closed for cheating.

  5. Unacceptable Cheating Rate: The report emphasizes that even a 1% cheating rate is unacceptable and a serious issue in Titled Tuesday.

  6. New Closure Policy: Chess.com will publicly mark the accounts of titled players who violate fair play policies in prize events or casual play on second chance accounts.

  7. Anti-Cheating Measures: Chess.com plans to improve anti-cheating measures and release new software for better oversight of players in Titled Tuesday and other prize events. Thankfully cheating is is not
