Alabama Chess group recruitment letter
Fellow members-
This is the text of a recruitment letter I hand out whenever possible at chess events in Alabama. The Word version has the Chess.com logo, but feel free to use this to recruit others you know might enjoy being part of the group. Thanks!
Greetings fellow Alabama chess enthusiasts!
For those of you who already play online chess on Chess.com, or would be interested in having an account on Chess.com, I wanted to let you know that there is a group entitled, “Alabama Chess,” on this site, which is for residents of the State of Alabama, or for those folks with a connection to Alabama. “Alabama Chess” was first formed as a group on Chess.com on August 13, 2009. As of July 2015, Alabama Chess is now the official representative of Alabama in the United States Team Chess League on Chess.com playing in one of the divisions against other states. In addition, the group serves as a mechanism for online chess enthusiasts from around the state to play, and learn chess, and the more participation we get, the more active the group becomes. We currently have 74 members of varying abilities, and players of all levels are encouraged to join!
To join, you must have a member account with Chess.com. After that, just search for “Alabama Chess” under the group link, and ask to join the group. As a group, we can play other groups, play group only tournaments, play vote chess, and converse about all things related to chess in Alabama. Although many younger scholastic players are encouraged to play on ChessKid.com (a subsidiary of Chess.com), once they get older this site gives them a great place to play online chess, and continue their chess studies.
Chess.com has both free and paid memberships available. I would highly recommend a paid account because of the additional site access it provides, but that’s everyone’s individual choice.
If you should have any questions about Chess.com, or the Alabama Chess group, please feel free to contact me via e-mail at region3bob@gmail.com. With almost 15 million member accounts on Chess.com, I think you’ll find the world of online chess a great place to expand your chess horizons!
Yours in Chess,
Bob Boland (RFBoland on Chess.com), Super Admin, Alabama Chess
