Thanks to everybody that has joined the group and took park in the 1st BDCA Lockdown tournament.

Mike Bramson played excellently to win the event, half a point ahead of Mitchell Burke, Gawain Ako and Dave Shapland. Click to see the full Cross-table

This was a bit of a learning experience for everyone but I think most people got to play in most of the rounds without too much of a hitch.

Thanks also to everyone who has provided feedback following this first event. I've been given some great ideas about what other things we can try with this group.

BDCA Lockdown #2 - 10-minute Arena (2 hours)

For the next event on Tuesday 7th April, starting at 7.30pm the format will be slightly different. Each player will still have 10 minutes to make all their moves. However, the tournament will be ran in the "Arena" format that will last for 2 hours.

For full details about how these work - click here

To summarise the key points:

  • Once you finish your game, you will be repaired very soon after you click "Next Game"
  • You are generally paired against people in the same score and/or with a similar rating to you.
  • You can enter or leave the arena at any time within the 2 hours. You won't be repaired after your last game until you click "Next Game" or until you re-enter the Arena if you have left.
  • A win is worth 2 points, a draw 1 point and a loss 0 points.
  • You are rewarded for going on a winning streak. For your 2nd win in a row, you'll receive 3 points. For your 3rd win in a row and every consecutive win thereafter, you'll receive 4 points.
  • The winner is the person with the most Arena points.

This means that people will play different numbers of games. Obviously the more games you play, the more chances you have to score points, but this is no good if you play too quickly and lose! However this format also does give people a chance to take a break as and when they please between games.

This continues to be a learning experience so after this tournament has finished, I'd be grateful for your feedback on which format you prefer, if any.
