Bradford Slowplay Final Results
(Nearly) all of the games in the first Bradford Online Slowplay event have now concluded.
Pool A
I got off to a flying start with three wins but collapsed a bit finishing off with three draws, when I could easily have lost all of them. This allowed Dave Barlow to catch up and join me in a tie for first place on 4.5/6. As I won our individual encounter, I am placed first with Dave in 2nd.
Pool B
Dave Sykes was on 50% at the half-way mark but scored three victories in a row to secure sole first place on 4.5/6 one point ahead of the chasing pack.
Pool C
This group saw the most exciting finish as John Douglas and Simon Jones both won on demand in the final round with the black pieces to catch Adrian Arthur who had been leading up until that game.
The first tiebreak was the results between the players. Each player had beaten and lost to one of their rivals, meaning that this could not separate the players.
This meant that the second tiebreak was in play, called Neustadtl Sonnenborg-Berger. This is a score that rewards wins against players who scored more points higher than wins against those who finished lower in the table. As Derrick Mason and Ian Craig had not played their fixture, I scored their game as a draw for these purposes.
Simon Jones and John Douglas both scored 10.5 under this system but Adrian Arthur scored 12, meaning that he is the winner of Pool C on tiebreak.
Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone for playing!
I will review whether to run another version of this depending on what happens with over the board chess over the next couple of months.
