Checkmate Lesson #2
In our last checkmate lesson, we learned more about back rank mates. we learned all about protection, attack, and moving different pieces. In this lesson, we will be talking about checkmating an opponent by protecting our attacking piece. For example, if our opponents king is anywhere on the board, and we have a pawn 2 squares below the king, we can try to get our queen in to the action by first setting up for the line between our pawn and the opponents king. we can then move the queen across the board and check our king, and depending on the position of the king on the board, our queen will be protected by our pawn and deliver mate. You can try using this concept with multiple pieces as well, like a rook and a bishop working together and one protecting the other. Or you can use a knight and a king, etc. (Just make sure you aren't hanging pieces). Whatever works during the current position on the board, you can use these fundamentals to attack short range while protected by another piece (could be anything), forcing mate on your opponent.
