Chess 341 – Basic Pawn Endgames. The opposition.
Hello, chess.com friends! I am Dejan Bojkov, GM from Bulgaria and one of Chess.com University’s new instructors.
I am happy to announce my second seminar:
Chess 341 – Basic Pawn Endgames. The opposition. Types and usage of the opposition.
Level: Chess 341 is aimed at players with a strength of 1500 – 1800.
When: Saturday 9-th June, 2012 at 12:00 PM Pacific Time.
Format: The total seminar duration will be 2 hours and 15 minutes, with two 1- hour sessions that are separated by a 15-minute break.
Course Description: Pawn endgames are a must for every player and this is the place where the extra pawn can be converted into a full point or will lead only to a draw. The kings are the only remaining pieces left on board and their active play is usually decisive for the outcome of the battle. The various types of opposition will show us the typical methods of attack and defense. You will learn how to apply the standard opposition and how to transform the distant one into a normal opposition. You will also learn when the distant opposition is better than the usual and why.
After the Break (15 minutes)
The diagonal and knight oppositions will be covered which are separate areas in pawn endgames.
As a result of the course you will learn some important exact positions and will be feeling much more confident whenever the endgame appears.
Prerequisites: There are no prereqs for this course.
Tuition: $33/person
Registration: Minimum # of students for the tentatively scheduled seminar to become official: 14 by May 28th, 2012. The maximum # of students for this seminar is 26.
