Chess University, Inc. (CU), the parent company of ChessUniversity.com and sister sites such as ChessUniversityShop.com is establishing a Board of Students to introduce student-centered governance to CU. This is a great way to get more involved with CU, have more say in what we do, get unique perks, and help Chess University on its mission to revolutionize chess education. Specific details regarding perks will be available soon but we would love to hear from you beforehand if you're even a little bit interested in this concept. If you don't meet the requirements for a Board of Students membership but like Chess University and would like to help, we can offer some free chess instruction in return.

If you wish to volunteer at Chess University for some free chess instruction, please fill out this form: goo.gl/BPifYi

If you wish to join the Board of Students, read on below.

FAQ Answers: Yes, it is possible to be a member of the Board of Students and a student volunteer as both arrangements work differently. When we say "students" we refer to chess learners, not necessarily school students. Only adults are allowed to sit on the Board of Students.

1. Executive Member

  • Must have been a Chess University student for at least one year, preferably two or more.
  • Must have enrolled in at least six regular Prodigy Program courses till date.
  • Must have a history of being a Chess University friend and ambassador.
  • There are 16 seats total including one Chairman and Vice Chairman seat.
  • The 16 executive members will automatically get Tier 1 affiliate status (information on that is forthcoming but that is our absolute highest tier of affiliate partnership).
  • The 16 executive members will be the most influential chess students in CU.
  • The 16 executive members will have access to internal/confidential CU information.

2. Member

  • Must have been a Chess University student for at least three months.
  • Must have enrolled in at least two regular months of the Prodigy Program.
  • Must have a history of being a Chess University friend and ambassador.
  • There are 48 seats total.
  • The 48 members will automatically qualify for at least a Tier 2 affiliate status but may be given Tier 1 status on a case-by-case basis.
  • The 48 members will be the next-most influential chess students in Chess University, Inc. after the executive members and for most practical purposes, be grouped together with the executive members.
  • The 48 members will be primarily be filled with long-term students, who would also qualify to be executive members, but have less time or simply decided to join the board after the executive seats were filled.

3. Board of Students

  • Has 16 executive and 48 regular seats for a total of 64 members. Additional seats may be added if/when it’s necessary. Members can contribute in various ways to help grow CU. Nearly any and every skill set can be useful for Chess University.
  • Will vote on a wide variety of issues including new programs, lesson topics, suggestions for new instructors, etc. For example, as we work to make the Prodigy Program even better, the Board of Students may serve as a test for new instructors. A new instructor may need the approval of the Board of Students before being able to join as a regular instructor in the Prodigy Program.
  • As Chess University scales and hopefully reaches over 1 million students by 2020, we may need to implement a process in which students can give their feedback and suggestions to the Board of Students, which can then be forwarded to Chess University Staff.
  • May review scholarship applications, intern applications, etc. as Chess University forms new branches to help grow and support chess around the world.

If you would like to play a larger role in Chess University's mission to revolutionize chess education around the world, please let us know! To join the Board of Students, email kairav@chessuniversity.com. To discuss possibilities of becoming a volunteer and get some free chess instruction, fill out this form: goo.gl/BPifYi

Please do contact us even if you're just a little interested. You don't need to commit to anything at this time. We just want to initiate a conversation and figure out how our instruction can help over 1 million students improve at chess by 2020.

Thank you for your consideration!
