I think about words a lot - I am a writer, after all! And today as I looked out the window longingly, I thought about the word "spring." Did the naming of the season have to do with the verb "spring"?

Turns out, it did! The word for spring in Old English was Lenten or Lencten, related to the lengthening of the days. But at some point - probably in the 14th or 15th century - it took on the name 'Spring', as a sort of nod to nature awakening and 'springing forth.' 

Then it got me thinking, there are so many definitions of the word 'spring.'

It could be an energetic leap forward. Suddenly appearing. A coiled mechanical device. Or even a place where you get overpriced bottled water.
