Chess.com University Hiring - February 2016

We are the world's leading chess-teaching organization and regularly offer high-quality online chess courses, chess camps, seminars, programs, and much more. Our flagship course, the Prodigy Program, has allowed students from over 50 countries to take their chess skills to the next level while getting to interact with chess legends such as Vishy Anand.

While we have plans to grow Chess University in various ways, our primary objective at this time is enhancing and growing the Prodigy Program. For that reason, the role of new hires will be to help us improve the Prodigy Program and/or help us acquire new students.

 

General Requirements for all Chess.com University Openings:

- At least 18 years old.

- Fluent in written and spoken English.

- Know how to play chess.

 

Let's take a look at our current openings!

 

(1) Chess.com University Teaching Assistant - Prodigy Program

Teaching Assistants serve as aids to Chess.com University Instructors and help create content for the Prodigy Program. Teaching Assistants also analyze games of students. Teaching Assistants only need to work a couple of hours per week.

Additional Requirements:

- Premium member on Chess.com.

- Have an official over-the-board rating of at least 1800.

 

Compensation: Between $9 and $15 per hour.

 

(2) Chess.com University Assistant Instructor

Assistant Instructors teach live lessons in the Prodigy Program, create instructional chess videos, host simuls, and/or teach live Chess.com University seminars. Nearly all current Chess.com University Instructors were once Assistant Instructors. This position is for experienced chess coaches who want to further develop their teaching abilities as they help hundreds of students improve at chess.

Additional Requirements:

- Rated at least 1800 USCF or FIDE. Titled players preferred.

- Access to good, wired internet connection.

- Access to a computer with a high end Intel i5 processor or any i7 processor. Quad-core AMD processors are also usually acceptable.

- Experienced at teaching chess online. Experience with streaming/broadcasting preferred but not required.

- Available to teach on two weekends each month between 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM Pacific Time.

 

Compensation: Between $20 and $50 per hour depending on various factors.

 

(3) Chess.com University Prodigy Program Marketing Specialist

Prodigy Program Marketing Specialists have one task - to help us reach out to  more chess players and get more students. Marketing Specialists are expected to contact chess clubs, coaches, schools, and form partnerships to reach out to more chess players and potential students. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity with great earning potential. This position is open to individuals from around the world who can communicate effectively, have experience in sale and marketing, and believe in our mission of taking online chess instruction to the next level.

Additional Requirements:

- Excellent, friendly communicator.

- Experience in sales, marketing, customer service, and professional relations preferred.

- Have at least a high school diploma.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

- Active tournament chess player, preferably a master.

- College graduate or at least some college education.

- Chess club president, tournament director, or chess events organizer.

 

Compensation: Based on commissions and bonuses.
