Home Stretch for SC Scholastic Chess!
The 2026 State Championship is coming up on March 21, 2026 (only 40 days away).

The Palmetto Scholastic Chess League is a proving ground to ultimate success at the State Championship. Last year, River Bluff HS swept 1st at PSCL and went on to win the 2025 State Championship. Dutch Fork Middle and Lakeside Middle battled it out for 1st and 2nd at PSCL events in 2025 and then placed 1st and 2nd, respectively, at the State Championship. This year, those teams are again strong championship contenders, with more top finishes at PSCL, along with the notable New Providence Elementary School who has 4 first-place finishes in Elementary School this year! (See Past PSCL Winners)

There is only one more PSCL on March 7, 2026 until the big dance!

See the Scholastic Championship website for tips and flyers that will help you form your team and get ready. No team? No problem! The Championship awards individual prizes as well and is the official USCF qualifier event for the national tournament of champions!

Player of the Month: Meet Jonathan McAulay!
Jonathan McAulay is our February 2026 Player of the Month. A native of Birmingham, Alabama, Jonathan is currently in Columbia, South Carolina, where he attends Allen University on a band scholarship, majoring in mathematics.

Rated 1600 on Chess.com, Jonathan is a new over-the-board competitor who’s already giving our seasoned heavyweights a serious run for their money. Although he learned chess at a young age, it wasn’t until high school that he began pursuing the game with real focus—and it’s clearly paying off.
NM Mike Sailer Releases Feb. Advanced Class Syllabus
NM Mike Sailer has announced his February syllabus for the Advanced Class, featuring a World Champion Month - a series of lectures dedicated to the lessons taught by some of the greatest chess world champions.
