County Championships 2023 Round Up April
County Championship 2023 Open Division 3
It’s mid-Season with 5 of the 9 rounds of the 2023 Open Championship underway. We are currently lying in fourth place with two points (one win, one loss) from our two completed matches. But we can anticipate moving up in the coming weeks. The Round 3 match against Suffolk is all but in the bag. Just one point to take us over the winning line. With nearly 60% of the games completed we have a handy lead of 3 points in the 4th round match against Hertfordshire. Early days in Round 5 against league leaders Derbyshire.
Round 6 against Nottinghamshire starts on the 7th April. Link here to join the roster: https://www.chess.com/club/matches/tayside-fife-and-stirlingshire/1477441
As we have a bye in Round 7, this is the last opportunity to represent the club in our most prestigious competition until June.
County Championship Under 1600 Rating 2023 Division 2
Having won Division 3 last season our 1st Round match against Norfolk Knights has just started. This could be a year of consolidation for the team having ‘lost’ a couple of team mates from last year’s victorious roster.
County Championship Under 1300 Rating 2023 Division 5
This season’s competition for Under 1300 rated players started last month and the club are in a good position against first up opponents Glamorgan (County of my birth!) by 5points to 3. Another 1.5 points will secure an opening victory.

County Championship 2023 Cup Quarter Final
Our opponents Lanarkshire are very much in the in-form team in this year’s second Division of the County Championship with an undefeated record, so this was always going to be a tough fixture with their roster of 16 players including 7 rated 1700 plus. But we are putting up a great fight. Current score 6.5 to 10.5 in Lanarkshire's favour.
