County Championships 2023 Round Up May
County Championship 2023 Open Division 3
A good month for the Open League Team with victories over Suffolk and Hertfordshire. 6 points from a possible 8 currently has us well placed in third behind Derbyshire (8 points) and Staffordshire (6 points, who are second curtesy of their victory over us in Round 1). Victory over Round 6 opponents Nottinghamshire is all but, in the bag, although we are trailing Derbyshire by 6 points to 3 with 13 games remaining. Looks as if this match will go to the wire, so every game is important.
We have a bye in Round 7. Birmingham and Cheshire are our Round 8 and 9 opponents, and we will need to win both these matches to give us a good chance of a top three finish and promotion. Beat Derbyshire as well and it could be promotion as champions.
County Championship Under 1600 Rating 2023 Division 2
A comprehensive win in Round 1 against Norfolk Knights is an excellent start to the season. Early days in the Round 2 fixture with Staffordshire. Good to see a long roster of 10 players per team.
County Championship Under 1300 Rating 2023 Division 5
The first-round match against Glamorgan looks to be going our way. We currently have a 6-4 lead with two games to finish: looking good for at least and win and a half point, possibly both for a projected 8-4 win.
Shetland could only muster a roster of 3 players for our Round 2 match, which will focus the minds of our players. No room for a blunder!
County Championship Cup
The QF against Lanarkshire is proving to be a real tussle. Our west of Scotland colleagues has ground out a 14-8 lead and only need another 2.5 points for victory. This was always going to be a tough match against a much bigger club able to field several 1700 plus rated players. But hang on in guys, never say never.
