Eastlake loses to Newport and Michael loses to an IM
Hello MNMS club members! Here is the news of the week. On December 9, Kingco chess league was hosted again! Eastlake was playing Newport high school. Eastlake forfeited two games from the start due to two people couldn't make it... On first board Anand was playing a 2200 and on second board Michael was playing an IM with a northwest rating fo 2100. Here is the game below:
That was a very sad ending . Michael never calculated 16. Red1 pinning the knight to the queen. His game was finished first in the match. Instead of 14... Nc5??, he should have played 14... Bxd2! 15. Qxd2 and then 15... Rc8 with a normal position. Overall he had a great position before 14... Nc5??. In the next game, Anand lost to a 2200. He was winning very well but messed up badly. Here is the game below:
Later Anand resigned. The notation was too unclear and didn't make sense so the recording will stop here. Anand played well (even though the slav defense is one of his major weaknesses) but messed up after his opponent managed to castle. Here is the third game that was actually won:
Later Black got checkmated. It was a very tough match. The toughest Eastlake has gone through.
As usual, I am going to end my articles with some puzzles. Remember to tell me the dates that work for you to make it to the Coordinators arena.
