Emissaries from Kitsap County
& the Silverdale Chess Club Win Overseas

This week two amazing juniors from our midsts, along with their dedicated “Chess Dad”,  ourneyed across the Atlantic ocean to the British Isles for an International Chess Tournament on the mythical Isle of Wight, a site famous in chess history for launching the careers of many a young Grandmaster.
The youngest chess club emissary at eight years old, is Sofia Byelashov who entered the U1700 section of the Isale of Wight event with a starter rating of just 1096. By the end of the sixth round in this seven round tournament, Sofia was sitting on a perfect score of 6 /6 and being videotaped on camera by British Broadcasting (the BBC). Sofia will bring home the 1st place trophy regardless of her last round result which was being played as we went to press. Her performance rating for the event was an astounding 2399, a rating that would qualify her for an IM Norm in the future as her own rating
Her super-talented sister, Darya Byelashov, also had a plus score and will join her sibling in climbing the ratings ladder to stardom. “Chess Dad’ Alex Byelashov, also had a good showing being pitted against very strong FIDE players and unleashing his favorite Bird’s Opening for a decisive win.
A visit to the Byelashov “trophy room” in Gig Harbor reveals a mantle piece covered with towering chess awards including Darya’s 1st  place victory at the Susan Polgar National Open where she was invited by Susan to participate in other Polgar activities.
Could we be witnessing the beginning of another powerful chess sister combo as legendary as the Hungarian Polgar family?  Here again, only time will tell!
Closer to Home, Liam Glaser Cashes In
On President's Day Weekend Blitz

Meanwhile, across another body of water, the Puget Sound, Liam Glaser continued his winning ways by capturing a cash prize in the President's Day Blitz tourney in Bellevue.   While the city of Bellevue is a bit closer “overseas” tournament venue than Great Britain. Kitsap  and the SCC were well represented in both places.
Congratulations to all!
Rated Match Play May Begin Today!

Beginning this week, we will do our best to pair up any players who wish to play a rated match at the "Game 30” time controls (no increment) and receive both a dual "Q “ (“Quick”) and “R” ("Regular”) U.S. Chess Rating as a result.

Each player and challenger will simply agree on the number of games to be played in the match.
U.S. Chess membership is required to obtain a chess rating.  Find membership info here:
