EUROPEAN CITIES LEAGUE (ECL) 2024 ROUND 3
The first two rounds are well underway against powerful Eastern European opposition, a step up from the 2024 season.
We are playing a blinder in Round 1 against Odessa (16-9; 18 boards), though aided and abetted by some Ukrainian timeouts. Round 2 against our Belarusian opponents, Minsk (2-7; 12 boards), was always a tougher match, given the rating strength of their roster.
Round 3 opponents Brno (BUR-noh – English pronunciation) is a city in the South Moravian Region of the Czech Republic. Located at the confluence of the Svitava and Syratka rivers, Brno has about 400,000 inhabitants, making it the second-largest city in the Czech Republic after the capital, Prague
They have three rounds in the ECL underway (one an ‘early kick-off’ match-up as a WCL doubleheader). They currently trail Edinburgh, Odessa, and London by small margins. We’ll have a good match looking at their rosters, still definitely a target win.
