Chess.com has millions of players, billions of games, billions of words of news and discussion in dozens of languages... and only two ways to interact with it all? We started out with a website (two versions and a Facebook app!), and we added in mobile apps for iOS and Android. This seems hardly enough, and yet maintaining and improving these experiences take all the time and brainpower from our world-spanning developer team. How can we possibly bring to life all the great ideas of all the novel ways to play chess and interact with the community? We can't.

But you can!

Over the next six months Chess.com will be rolling out data APIs, interactive APIs, and other developer tools that will let you build new interfaces and views of the Chess.com experience — custom leagues, personal data tracking and alerts, your own game UI interacting with the largest online chess community, whatever you can imagine. As we build these tools, we will need feedback, bug reports, and information on what is useful and why. We want to build tools that you use to make great chess experiences.

This is Chess.com's official club for discussion and updates as we develop these public APIs, data assets, and software developer kits. This club is new and actively growing the resource documentation. We will post News and Forum topics here as resources become available. Chess.com staff involved in the design and development of the APIs will be participating in discussions to find out what the broader developer community can use best.
APIs and other resources discussed here should be considered "beta" for now, since we will be adapting things based on feedback. We'll be making up new things as we go, so by being part of this club you can stay on top of the possibilities.

While we post information about the first resources, feel free to start discussions about what sorts of things you would like to build with Chess.com data and APIs. We cannot address all items in such wishlists, but we will read them and your ideas will help steer our direction.

Please note that these forums are public; do not share any idea that you do not own or that you do not want shared with the developer community. Chess.com is not currently interested in private partnerships for software development nor are we "taking requests" for new software — we are much more interested in helping you build your own ideas that you believe in!

This week we should see the rollout of a few data APIs (read-only information about games, players, and clubs), and we'll post the requirements for being an "early adopter" of our interactive API (which will allow you to start and play games through your interface). Sign up here to stay informed!
