Learn Chess Openings at Free UW-Rock Lecture
Janesville -- Chess players of all ages can learn opening strategies at a free presentation at UW-Rock County on Wednesday, April 1, at 6:30 p.m. The program will be in the Allen Hall lecture hall, Room 106, on the campus at 2909 Kellogg Ave.
Nicholas French, lecturer of English and highly rated chess player, will present the program, which will include a lecture and demonstrations.
"The opening move sets the stage for the whole game," says French. "By studying common chess openings and the typical responses by the other player to those moves, players can improve their game dramatically."
The program is sponsored by the UW-Rock County Rock Rooks chess club. For more information, call chess club advisor Brian Beecher at (608) 758-6565 ext. 440.
