GAME OF THE WEEK!
Hello PTP club members, Coach Aaron here with our first news post. Every week I'm going to look over all of your games (I do mean all of them) and find a particular game that deserves to be featured in "GAME OF THE WEEK!" The purpose of this news segment is to encourage chess players to play their best chess, aspire other players and to give some well deserved attention to some hard fought games.
Our first game is brought to you by PTP veteran Uriel R. who sacked a knight for a nasty fork that his opponent wasn't ready for.
As a chess coach, seeing these types of games really puts a smile on our faces. As a chess player, you always want to learn something, a new opening, a neat tactic, a complicated pawn endgame just to name a few. And what we see here is a student experimenting and being creative, truly the makings of a good chess player. When you play a move like 9. Nd5, with the idea of 9... cxd5 10. Qxd4 (forking the undefended rook on a8 and checkmate via the Queen and Bishop Battery on f7, that means your willing to be creative and experimental on the board. That is one of the keys to becoming a strong player, the willingness to be creative and experimental. During my games and studies, when I come across opportunities like Nd5 I look at it like this, "If this works then I gain an advantage, if it doesn't I learn something new and exercise my chess skills."
I hope you learned something from this game and news post, I look forward to seeing how creative you all can be. If there's a game that your proud of please send it to me! I'm sure we would all love to see it and to learn from it.
That's it for this week's "GAME OF THE WEEK!", ask questions and leave comments down below.
Thank you for reading,
