Happiest holidays to all!

In this festive week of the 2025 holiday season - where trimming of trees, hanging of stockings, lighting of candles, and last minute shopping take center stage, we are putting this week's formal Chess Club meeting on hiatus.

Players are always welcome to drop-in to Moment Brewing and pick up a game.  Chess sets and clocks are available in the  green bins on top of the wall along the left side of the hall. Please ask for assistance.

You might also like to check out this online Christmas-themed chess game with decorative chess pieces and board for playing against the computer or vs. other players at  https://www.247chess.com/christmas/  It’s Bishop elves against gingerbread Knights. and red ornament pawns against green.

At another online venue, the "Greatest Christmas Chess Game;.” ever played, known as The Evergreen Game, between Adolf Anderssen and Jean Dufresne, is featured at Chess Vibes with Nelson Lopez as your host commentator.

We leave you with this Christmas poem:
Tis the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse
The chessboard was set, pieces Ja-doubed with care
In hopes that a game would soon play out there

The rooks all stood tall like sentries on guard
The knights were well groomed, ready to spar
The bishops on their colors were ready to move
The queen on her throne, ready to prove

The king sat proudly, his crown on his head
As the pawns were poised ready to be led
The fire crackled in the hearth, warm and bright
As the players sat down, ready for a fight

They played on through the night, up until dawn
A Christmas game of chess, a battle reborn
The pieces moved and captured, each trying to win
But in the end, it was a draw, the game did not end

So they sat back and smiled, and enjoyed the night
A Christmas Eve game of chess, a player's delight
A time for family and friends, and games to be played
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good Knight!

and here’s another, generated this session by A.I,…
'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the land,
The chess pieces were stirring, each with their own plan.

The kings and the queens, the knights and the rooks,
Were all feeling excited, as they prepped for their looks.

The pawns they were buzzing, with energy and glee,
For they knew that on Christmas, they'd finally be free.

For on this special night, they would all take their place,
To play in a tournament, with skill and with grace.

The board was set up, with care and with pride,
Each piece in its spot, ready to glide.

The game began and the pieces took flight,
Moving with calculation, seeking the advantage in sight.

The players calculated their moves, seeking the win,
Using skewers and forks, to outsmart their kin.

Initiative was key, as the pieces advanced,
Coordinating their attacks, in a deadly dance.

In the end, it was the player with the most skill,
Who claimed victory, with their cunning and will.

So as Christmas came to an end, and the night grew dark,
The chess pieces retired, each with their own mark.

They knew they would meet again, to play and to fight,
But until then, they would rest, on this most joyous night.
