Henrik Carlsen: If "Bavaria" beats "Real Madrid", Magnus will be more ruthless a

The father of World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen, Henrik Carlsen  in an interview with the official website of the tournament "Shamkir Chess 2014" spoke about his impressions of Shamkir. He stated that the World Champion does not have 'star' disease and that he is heartfelt supporter of "Real Madrid".  

 

- I am very happy. I am satisfied with the result. But I always try not to think about the result. For Magnus good game is the key. Believe me, when the party itself is good the results are coming by default. He is trying to demonstrate maximum good quality in each game. Although he should not rely on 2 victories, we must act confident until the end.

 

 - I'm not saying because I am his father, but Magnus is my type of guy. He was very happy when he became the World Champion. His main idea is to become the 1st in the world ranking. In FIDE rating he does not want to lose the lead. He has not changed after becoming the World Champion. He does not have "Star" disease. Simply Magnus is just now known more. Before 4-5 people used to recognize him, but now in Oslo, Norway where he lives he cannot walk quietly in the streets. Attention and concentration is very important in chess. Media and fans are always interested in him. Therefore, sometimes we are trying to protect him. He became popular after he received the chess crown. Usually such people cannot walk on the street quietly.

 

- You require to open a secret. During short parties he drinks just water. But in the long games I prepare a special drink for him. Magnus likes orange juice a lot. And usually orange juices are too sugary for him. We mix water with orange juice and it makes Magnus's favoriteу drink. It is hard for him to consume too sweet drinks.

 

- I do not know. Magnus is a very self-confident now. He likes Shamkir. You can see that sometimes he walks back to hotel. He loves to walk around beautiful nature. He is delighted with everything in Shamkir. If everything is good then there is a possibility for him to beat any of his opponents.

 

- If there was a choice of becoming a father of the World Champion I would wish to become a father of the World Champion. It is true that I have set aside my personal life. For many years I worked as an engineer. I worked as a consultant since 2012. Since last year I am part of Magnus's team. During each trip we are always together. On my free time I cook my wife delicious dishes.

 

- Vugar Gashimov was a man of great heart. He showed very good game while the Grand Prix in Baku. Good people are leaving this life early. I want  to thank the organizers-"Synergy Group". Thank you very much. They have held a high level tournament in memory of Vugar. All the world's attention is directed at "Shamkir Chess 2014" tournament. I would like for this tournament to take a traditional term. Magnus has the great pleasure of participating in any competition in Azerbaijan, because all tournaments pass on high level.

 

- It has been 10 years already since I do not forbid anything to Magnus. He makes his own decisions independently. He is a true fan of "Real Madrid". From psychological point of view it is important to prepare for each game privately. So bad outcome of the football game should not affect him. When "Real Madrid" wins it makes Magnus happy. Defeat of course, is a bad influence on him as a fan.

 

- If Bavaria wins, Magnus will be more ruthless against his opponents. When the King's club wins he is happy that his team won. But when they get defeated he wants to make their loss to be eliminated with his victory.
