ICA Ethics Policy
Standards of Conduct
The actions and behavior of players, tournament directors, sponsors, and other individuals and entities participating in Idaho Chess Association’s activities shall be lawful and in accordance with all US Chess rules and regulations, and consistent with the principles of fair play, good sportsmanship, honesty, and respect for the rights of others. Though not exhaustive, this list addresses direct ethical violations.
- Harassing or chastising players, directors, or administrators.
- Cheating in a game of chess by illegally giving, receiving, offering, or soliciting advice; or by consulting written sources; using chess engines; tampering with equipment; or in any other manner.
- Deliberately losing a game for payment, or to lower one's rating, or for any other reason, or attempting to induce another player to do so. Deliberately failing to play at one's best in a game, in any manner inconsistent with the principles of good sportsmanship, honesty, or fair play.
- Deliberately misrepresenting one's playing ability in order to compete in a tournament or section of a tournament intended for players of lesser ability.
- Participating in a tournament under a false name or purposely giving false information.
- Participating in a tournament while under suspension.
