I'm leaving Santa Barbara, who's next?
As the title says, I'm moving out of SB by July 1. That means it's time for the chess players of Santa Barbara to step up and run this club.
I know I haven't done the best of jobs clearly communcating and facilitating events, but there's only so much one person can do. That is why I highly recommend the rest of you start delegating responsibilities to one another and sharing the workload of making this club great.
There's nothing saying you have to do this through the community college, but I highly recommend that you do that as well, because that's up to $500 a year in easy grant money for tournaments, gear, and community events. For that, you'll need at least one active and reliable SBCC student to act as the President representing the club.
Let's start this discussion now, so that no one's taken by surprise when the chess club disappears inexplicably. Also know that I'll be gone for 2-3 weeks in June, so I'll basically only be here until the end of this month.
These guys have been very helpful in keeping things moving a bit with the club, and at least showing up consistently. You may want to keep them in mind in these days to come. Thanks Dave and Lief!
