Hello!

Today I will explain about KPO (Kings Pawn Opening). As we all know, the King's Pawn Opening is a very famous way to start the game, along with 1. d4. Let's see what benefits we get with this opening:-

Now, when White played 1. e4, he is freeing his f1 bishop which can now control 5 squares (e2,d3,c4,b5 and c6). With this move, White is also freeing his Queen which can now control 4 squares (e2,f3,g4,h5). Now, the most important thing here is that White is occupying 1 center square (e4) and controlling two squares (f5 and d5). So, e4 is a brilliant opening move for White!

Now, let's see black's best reply. The move is:-

So, Black's best reply is e5. The reason is that when 1. ... e5 is played, Black does the following things:-

  1. Black frees his f8 bishop (the bishop can move 5 squares i.e. e7, d6, c5, b4, a3).
  2. Black frees his Queen ( the Queen can move 4 squares i.e. e7, f6, g5, h4).
  3. He controls 2 squares (f4 and d4) and occupies one square (e5). Note that all those are important squares.

So, here we come to know that both of these moves that are played are brilliant. Now I also inform you that these moves also start many openings and variations. For example- the King's Gambit Accepted/Declined or the Center Game etc.
