Kpop Female Group of the Month #6
Dreamcatcher is a 7-member kpop girl group in Happy Face Entertainment. The group debuted on 13 January 2017 with the album ‘Nightmare’.
The members’ stage names are: Gahyeon, Dami, Yoohyeon, Handong, Siyeon, JiU and SuA. Five of these members (JiU, SuA, Dami, Yoohyeon and Siyeon) had originally debuted as MINX. However, they decided to redebut with more members and an interesting concept...
Dreamcatcher combined rock music with choreography, all the while representing a different phobia or terror:
- JiU: fear of being chased
- SuA: fear of restraint
- Yoohyeon: being lost in somewhere unknown
- Siyeon: claustrophobia
- Dami: agliophobia/ oulinophobia
- Gahyeon: basophobia
- Handong: scopophobia
Dreamcatcher’s first title track was ‘Chase me’, which would end up as no. 19 on Billboard’s best kpop songs of 2017 later that year. Dreamcatcher’s first EP rose to no. 1 on the US iTunes K-pop Top 100 chart. Dreamcatcher joined MixNine, but mostly left because of schedule conflict. They toured several countries in the months that followed.
Dreamcatcher’s agency, Happy Face Entertainment, soon changed their name to DreamCatcher Company. The group promoted in both South Korea and Japan, as well as worldwide during their tours. Handong had been absent from their European and American tours, due to her participation in Idol Producer.
Earlier this year, on 18 February, Dreamcatcher released their first studio album, Dystopia: The tree of language with the title track ‘Scream’. They also participated in the Millenasia Project with fellow idols such as AleXa, supported by UNESCO’s Global Education Coalition to teach others the importance of hygiene in these dangerous times. Dreamcatcher’s most recent album, Dystopia: Lose Myself, with the title track ‘Boca’ is their best selling album to date. Handong officially rejoined the group on 16 October and they are united once more to continue to produce music for the fandom!
