Look at the squares, not the pieces
Hey guys,
I noticed Augustine's post about talking about a game you like, so I went ahead and looked through my previous games and found one that I thought was not only interesting but taught me something about myself:
This was a game between myself and Maska from Albania. What this game taught me is that in chess, I am primarily an attacker. I opt for a quick finish to the game if possible, and if I can't get it I will usually lose. I think it is important to figure out your playing style and be aware of it as you make your moves in your games.
The other takeaway I had from this is how the game ended, I pushed for the win, even though I wasn't sure exactly where it was going. I looked at the squares my opponent's king had as an escape, and with a sneaky king move to the edge, I gave my opponent no means of preventing checkmate on the last move.
In my mind, this was an orchestration where everything had to come together perfectly to secure the win, or my plans would crumble and I would be left with a lost game. Hopefully this gives our club members some ideas on how they can develop or seek to control and finish their games favorably.
Stay hydrated y'all, thanks for reading
