Military Magistrates and Match Points
All Military Magistrates will have an ongoing record of their military performance according to how much honour they have brought to New Athens with respect to their particular role. So far, we have recognised three military roles which shall earn honour (match points).
Generals' scoring is the simplest to describe. They simply score whatever match points are won in the battles they have organised. This, by chess.com rules, is five match points per player when we defeat our opponent by having a greater game point total than our opponent's total, or two match points per player when our game point totals are equal and the overall match is a draw.
The role of Hipparch, as cavalry, is to re-balance a battle and allow lower rated Hoplites (less than 1600) to engage a more fairly matched opponent warrior. To reflect this, Hipparchs accumulate match points for every single battle they participate in to the sum of two points for every Hoplite who draws (by scoring 1-1) and five points for every Hoplite who wins against his opponent warrior (by scoring 1.5-0.5 or even 2-0). The actual result of the overall battle is immaterial for the Hipparch so long as he has performed his role of re-inforcing the more vulnerable Hoplites.
Finally, the role of Phylarch is to lead other tribe members into the battles organised by their tribal General. The Phylarch accumulates two match points per tribe member who draws against his opponent and five points per tribe member who defeats his opponent irrespective of the overall result of the battle.
Consider this battle:
New Athens Unit | Rating | GP | Enemy Unit | Rating | GP | ||
(a) | Other Hipparch | 1705 | 0.0 | vs. | Warrior | 1730 | 2.0 |
(b) | Tribal Hipparch | 1660 | 1.0 | vs. | Warrior | 1550 | 1.0 |
(c) | Tribe Hoplite | 1345 | 2.0 | vs. | Warrior | 1350 | 0.0 |
(d) | Other Hoplite | 1190 | 1.0 | vs. | Warrior | 1225 | 1.0 |
(e) | Tribe Hoplite | 1140 | 1.0 | vs. | Warrior | 1130 | 1.0 |
T O T A L | 5.0 | T O T A L | 5.0 |
Giving the following rewards to each magistrate:
General | 2 points x 5 (a..e) | 10 |
Hipparch | 5 points (c) + 2 points (d) + 2 points (e) | 9 |
Phylarch | 2 points (b) + 5 points (c) + 2 points (e) | 9 |
Since the overall result is a draw, the General earns 2 points per pair of warriors. Both of the Hipparchs earn 2 points for each of the drawing Hoplites and 5 points for the winning Hoplite. It doesn't matter whether the Hipparch is member of the General's tribe. The Phylarch gets 2 points for the drawing Tribal Hipparch and 2 points for the drawing Tribal Hoplite. He also gets 5 points for the winning Tribal Hoplite. He gets nothing for the Hipparch and Hoplite from other tribes.
