Men of Courage

Men of Faith are Men of Courage

One of my favorite verses in the Bible is: “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, ….. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

A concern that I have had for many years is the reality that many men do not step up and exhibit the kind of faith that God wants from us. The kind of faith that takes courage.

Too often we are willing to sit on the sidelines and not take a proactive approach to enhance the Kingdom of God.

I am not suggesting that we have to sell everything and go to Africa to serve in a mission field.

What I am suggesting is that we exhibit the kind of courage to be the spiritual leader in our home; to be willing to exhibit faith in our workplace when needed; to model to our community that we are a man of faith; to not sit back and not participate in leadership possibilities within our church. For too long, many men have been submissive and have been willing to submit that responsibility to the women; their wives, sisters, mothers, and daughters.

God created men in such a unique way and quite different than women. Don’t misunderstand what I am saying here. I am not a sexist. I believe that God created men and women to be equal, but our strengths and weaknesses are different.

As men, we should tap into the strengths, passions, and abilities that God has wired within each of us. When we do that we find a joy and a fulfillment in life that the world cannot provide.

I didn’t become a true believing Christian until I was 31. I went to church before then, but it didn’t move me. It was more like a social club than a place to worship God. I only did it out of an obligation to my mother or to my family later.

I accepted an invitation from a friend at work to attend his church. It was then that I heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ presented in a clear understandable way. The following week my wife and I returned and gave our lives to Christ.

Several years after I became a Christian, I was at best, a minimalist Christian, saved, and only slightly growing.

I knew there had to be more in order to experience real victory in life.

I made a decision to start living up to the purpose that God intended for my life. I started reading more of the Bible and on a more regular basis. I read related books like “The Purpose Driven Life” by Rick Warren and “Wild at Heart” by John Eldredge.

I began to seek God’s guidance for my life and I discovered a life of joy and a peace that passes all understanding.

I am fortunate that I and my family attend a church that have as many men active in the church as women. I have heard from women that they want to see men take on the spiritual leadership within the home and to be an active participant in the church and in ministry.

Be a man of faith and courage.
