NEW MEMBERS WELCOME! PLEASE HELP WITH RECRUITMENT

It's time to enter the recruitment market... 4 trophies last year... and I'm hoping we can add to that tally in 2025. We have 'lost' a few members in recent weeks for one reason or another. TFS membership now stands at 42, of which circa 10 are 'sleeping' members who play the odd game now and then. But it's great that most of us are committed - turn out and play regularly.

We shouldn't rest on our laurels, though. We should always be on the lookout for adding members of all playing abilities to our roster. However, identifying those who play on chess.com and might be likely targets is a difficult task. For example, no search facility allows me to recognize players who might reside in the TFS geographical area.

This is how you can help. Many of you play OTB at local clubs - an ideal opportunity to tap up potential newbies; you may have a chess friend on here who could be just the type of player we are looking for; even an opponent who gave you a good game or even thrashed you for that matter!

You could invite them to join you or pass on their details to me, and I'll do the gentle persuasion.

But bear in mind we are only looking for new players who are willing to meet our playing commitments (set out briefly on the Club's landing page):

'Our membership also requires that you: must be at least sixteen years of age; have been on chess.com for at least 3 months; have played a minimum of 10 rated daily matches; have no more than a 10% daily timeout percentage over the last 3 months; agree to follow Chess.com Fair Play Policy; commit to playing at least 6 matches for the Club in each calendar year.'

New members should be able to identify a relationship with our region e.g. through residence, work, education, family, ancestry. I take a pretty broad interpretation here : being a colleague, friend or associate of an existing member is good enough and within the the guidance given by the CC admins.

So, lets set a simple target - recruiting one new member each. And that would make us still a merry band, just a bigger band.

Happy hunting.
