Hey Chess.com Beta Club! Today we've launched a pilot project exclusively available to you called the "Best Move Challenge". You can find it at chess.com/best-move-challenge.

Here's how to play:

  • Take in the Position: You have 20 seconds to absorb the initial position while waiting for the computer to make its move.
  • Make Your Move: It’s your turn! Respond to the computer’s move within 15 seconds by making the best move you can.
  • Assess Your Confidence: Rate how confident you are that the move you played is good.
  • Climb the Leaderboard: Collect points for good moves (with bonus points for higher speed and accuracy), and level up.

We're testing this experience both to understand how players of different abilities navigate positions of varying complexity and to get your feedback on this becoming part of our training products down the line. Note that these are NOT traditional puzzles. These positions are instead meant to reflect scenarios you may encounter in a real game.

Though this is a very early stage product, in our testing with staff, we've been pleasantly surprised by how popular this feature has been. So far we've seen a lot of enthusiasm for bringing some of the fun of solving puzzles to more strategic positions. Please give it a shot and let us know what you think. See you on the leaderboard!
