Playing over the board for Staffordshire

For the first time since lockdown the Staffordshire Chess Association is pleased to announce that Staffordshire will be represented in the over the board County Championships that is run by the English Chess Federation.  

The group stage is held on a regional basis against other counties within the Midlands area.

Staffordshire have got two teams, one at the under 1,650 level, and one at the under 1,450 level.

Under 1,650 fixtures:
Saturday 29th October 2022 - Warwickshire - Home
Saturday 26th November 2022 - Worcestershire - Away

Under 1,450 fixtures:
Saturday 3rd December 2022 - Nottinghamshire - Away

The venue for the under 1,650 match against Warwickshire at home on Saturday 29th October 2022 is:

The start time of the match is 1:30pm.

The time control of the match is all moves within 1 hour 30 minutes, plus 10 seconds per move from move one. This is per player.

We are aiming for 16 players per side, but this maybe reduced before the start of the match.

The room hire cost means that there is a proposal of £5 contribution per player, to pay for the room hire.

Juniors can play in the team but must be accompanied by a parent.  

Ungraded players can play in the team, as long as their playing strength is not of sufficient enough strength to breech the grading limits that have been set.
