Register now for the Hawaii Open, November 11-13
The Hawaii Open is the oldest, biggest and best annual chess tournament in Hawaii. This year it returns to the beautiful Entrepreneur's Sandbox at 643 Ilalo Street in Honolulu.

There will be two sections: Open and Reserve (under 1500). Each section will have five rounds of USCF rated chess at a time control of Game in 90-minutes with a 30-second delay. That means games can last up to four hours. There will be a blitz tournament on Sunday afternoon with a 3-minute time limit and a 2-second increment. (Parent Note: Young players who might not enjoy sitting through the long games might love the very fast games of the blitz tournament. There is no requirement to play both events.) The winners of the three events become the official 2022 Hawaii State Champion, Reserve Champion and Blitz Champion.
The entry fee went up a lot this year, from $50 to $80 (Blitz is still $20), but so did the cash prizes. After expenses, 100% of entry fees are returned to the players. So with a low turnout of 40 players, plus 20 in the Blitz event, there would still be over $2000 in cash prizes, arranged so that every player has a good chance at winning something substantial.
The deadline for registration is Wednesday, November 9th. After that the late registration fee jumps to $120. So the early bird gets a much better deal.
