Reminder: Fair Play in Online Chess is Really Important!
I do get a lot of flak for reporting play that is suspect from other players, and even from a FIDE Master. I am not always correct. Sometimes I do get it right with a high percentage. Sometimes I do not. Then other times a few months later, those players get caught down the road.
My reasoning is that my arena's especially need to be as fair as possible. Not only because I stream on twitch and multi-stream on youtube, so people watch. But legit players want a fair playing field.
As well as I get a lot of chess players that participate that are not in my club, and most that come in, will never play in my arena's again if they experience cheating. I want my unrated arena's to be as safe as possible for people that view those arena's, that also play in the arena's, and trust me to know that I have their back. I am not always correct, but I do my best to make my unrated arena's as safe as I can. I do get flak for it. But I will take that responsibility and own it.
I recieved notification out of the blue from chess.com in regards to my reporting of players that I believe were suspect. I really appreciate that today. Yea I was only 1 for 6,and more players cheated that I did not report, as I got 44 elo points of compensation. But, at least I put the effort up to try to make everyone's experience in my arena's that I now run 3 times a week, a positive experience.
Message from chess.com:
Dear MammothBonus,
In August, you were refunded 44 rating points due to playing opponents who were closed for fair play violations.
You also submitted fair play reports about 6 players, of which 1 were actioned and closed by the fair play team.
Thank you so much for being a valued member of our community. Reporting players helps keep the site clean and the game fair -- we appreciate you doing so and ask that you continue reporting when you believe something is wrong!
Best,
Chess.com Fair Play Team
