First we have a house game between Aidan Jex and Jeff Lundholm. Jeff gets an early advantage after Aidan trades a rook for a knight and pawn. Aidan comes back and builds a kingside attack and finds their moment to strike and checkmate their opponent!
A tough game was played between NM Bryan Leano and Stephen Broderick. Bryan traps a knight early, but Stephen fights back and wins some pawns. Unfortunately, Stephen loses a rook, where there was a chance to save it with a hard to spot tactic on move 16.
Unfortunately, we didn't get the game between Lenden Rhodes and Jason Barton on board three. We only got word that the game was over after Jason won a knight for free and Lenden just couldn't hang on.
On board two, Hank Costner played Anthony Thompson, and Hank builds up an attack down the center towards a backwards pawn. He almost gets in trouble after missing a tactic and allowing Anthony time get some counter play, until Anthony misses a chance to trap the queen on move 16.
Finally, board one was Andre Herrera play against Mario Homer. Andre starts off with some gaining space where he can, but allows Mario time to gain some space on the queenside. Andre continues to attack and posts a knight on c6, but Mario breaks up the knight's supporting bishop and trades Andre's good pieces for better development.
We're down to the last round. There's a tie for 1st between Mario Homer and Hank Costner, who played and drew in round two. The final results now comes down to their games against Jason Barton for Mario, and Andre Herrera for Hank. With all four players in the running for 1st, we're excited to see what's to come!
