Dear Silverdale Chess Club Players, Friends & Families,
Round Two of the 2025 Silverdale Chess Club Championship Summer Tournament is on the calendar for tomorrow, Saturday, May 24,
In this flexible, Round Robin tournament, players will match up with others within eight seeds of their position on the Ratings Chart (see below).
The Chart shows both a player’s U.S. Chess rating AND an Estimated Over-the-Board Rating. Why?  Due to the scarcity of USCF rated tournaments on the Olympic Peninsula, our club players' U..S,. Chess ratings bear little resemblance to their actual playing strength over the board.
In our corner of the chess world, players may have a USCF ELO rating, a NW Chess rating, a Chess.com rating, and even a FIDE rating for international players.  For reporting of results in a U.S. Chess event we will naturally use the USCF rating.  But for pairing purposes in our Chess Club Round Robin we are using the Estimated OTB rating.
Here is the Wall Chart after Round One

With the Round Robin format, if you happen to miss your Round 2 game tomorrow, (for example), you can make it up over the weeks ahead. Every player in their Round Robin group will play every other player in the group by the end of the tournament.

Chess.com Classic Event Won by Who Else?  Magnus Carlsen!

Magnus Carlsen won the Chess.com Classic with a game to spare this week in the Grand Final against Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. The former world champion remained unbeaten throughout the event and secured the title with two wins and a draw in the final match. A swift victory in game one and a well-converted rook endgame in game three sealed the result.

Carlsen now turns his attention to Norway Chess beginning Monday where he returns to classical over-the-board play against an elite field. The prestigious double round-robin will feature six top players: Carlsen, reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju, Hikaru Nakamura, Arjun Erigaisi, Fabiano Caruana and Wei Yi.

Chess to be included at the Esports World Cup 2025

The greatest chess player of this era, Magnus Carlsen, has been announced as the Global Ambassador of chess at the Esports World Cup. The world's top online chess players will compete in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for a US$ 1.5 million prize pool. The event will take place from 31 July to 3 August 2025. The time control will be 10 minutes for the game, with no increments. Twelve players hoping to compete at the EWC will qualify through the Champions Chess Tour, which will host two online tour events in February and May. A final Last Chance Qualifier will take place in Riyadh to select the final four competitors. That competition will be open to amateur and professional players alike.
The Silverdale Chess Club meets on Saturdays from 2:00/2:30-4:30 at Moment Brewing, 10876 Myhre Pl NW Suite 112, Silverdale, WA 98383
