The national men’s team of Ukrain became gold medalist of the 39 th World Chess Olympiad in Khanty-Mansiysk.
The last match of Ukraine against Israel ended in a draw and they finished one point ahead of their main opponent Russia – 1 that in the same round shared points with the national team of Spain. Russians won silver.
There are several runners for the title of bronze medalists. Apparently their results will be announced after all the games of the men’s section will be over and after the additional calculation of the scores. (ugra-chess.com)
Armenia started well, but couldn´t win Georgia and everything went wrong, they lost to Azerbaijan and Russia 1, and finally drew with France today, in the last round.
Akopian did it well until this last round, losing against GM Fressinet Laurent (2718), a strong player, though it was his first defeat. Aronian is the only one who didnt loose any game, winnig 5 and drawing another 5. Gabrielian: +3 =6 -2. Pashikian: +4 =6-1. Grigoryan: +1. Finally, Akopian: +1 =9 -1.
