Seasonal report: 2024

The Christmas decorations have gone up in Quiddity Towers; Mrs Quiddity is baking biscuits while listening to sappy Christmas music; and our first 2025 season fixture is already open for registration. So it's time for my report on the 2024 season. You can see all the tables here (use the tabs at the bottom to move between leagues).

Open league

No getting around it: our results were not good this season, and we ended up bottom of Division 2. This isn't anyone's fault in particular. We are just much smaller than a lot of clubs in Divs 1 and 2 and so often end up outmatched (some of the Div 1 teams turn out 50+ boards on the regular)

The good news is that Div 3 looks much more like our level, and we should have a fun season seeing if we can bounce straight back up. Just two promoted this year rather than three, so all to play for.

U1600 league

This isn't over yet, and we're in almost exactly the same situation as last year: currently drawing in our last match, needing a win or a draw for promotion from Division 3. Four games still going. Good luck those players! Either way, we've done really well in this league.

U1300 league

Also not yet over, but we're guaranteed a solid mid-table finish in Div 4. Well done to all the U1300 players.

Knockout cup

A very narrow defeat in round 3 denied us a quarter-final spot.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So overall a mixed picture, but in any case, I hope everyone has enjoyed their games and enjoyed playing for the team---that's far far more important than results. I am (as ever) happy to take comments and suggestions about how the team might be better run, organised, etc, though I get the sense people are fairly fine with the low-key way we do things here. And I never did follow up the suggestion about a name change.  Still, you can try me!
