Here are some of the traits which most chess champions have in common:

  • To know your opponent: A good player always tries to understand and learn from each and every move happening on the board or each move his opponent makes. It can definitely help the player to become a master of this game or fit to become a Chess Champion or a Grandmaster.
  • To have good memory: A good player should have good memory to keep most of the chess positions and patterns in mind. This helps in playing the future games better. Many grandmasters/ chess champions / good players keep approx.100s to 1000s chess patterns or positions in their mind.
  • Learn to practice for long hours: Chess is such a game which requires practice. It is only through practice that a player learns new tricks and master in the game of chess. So, it is necessary for an aspirant of grandmaster to practice for long hours to get a good hold on chess.
  • To have competitive attitude: If someone is striving to become the best player or aspiring to become a grandmaster, he / she must have competitive attitude. The player should try hard to win each and every game he/ she plays. If one game is lost, the player should not get disheartened but should aim at finding out their mistakes and try to overcome the same.
  • Handle the situation under pressure: One of the qualities of a good chess player is that they must handle every situation in chess with cool and calmness. Even under serious attack by their opponent, they should not feel the pressure and face the situation coolly and find out the ways to defend themselves.
