Summer Wednesday Blitz Tournaments (organised by Jean Jaurès)
Last Wednesday a delegation of Caféschakers Gent went to bash it out with players from Jean Jaurès Gent chessclub in the idyllic setting of the Monterey pavillion in Citadelpark. Sunshine, a nice bar with smooth (not too loud) music across the road, friendly vibes, some beers and the sound of minds cracking... It was very nice!
Format was blitz 5-3 (delay instead of increment) and degressive prizes for the first 5 players.
Congratulations to the the winner and runner up, Joris and Gaetan (of course Jean Jaurès heavyweights
) ! Our member Jesse (https://www.chess.com/member/ykew) managed to score third place after an unexpected eternal chess draw against Joris (2100+ ELO). Very nice and probably the most notable event in the tournament (not counting my own blunders
) !
Thanks to Jean Jaurès for organising this event!
This was the 4th gathering, and this will be repeated until the end of summer, every Wednesday from 18h30 until finish (more or less 21hrs depending on number of participants). Participation fee is a democratic 5 euros, everybody is welcome regardless of experience (although blitz novices might find it a bit hard). Chess boards and clocks are provided by Jean Jaurès, so you only need to bring your brain and good spirits!
Feel free to post/share your pictures or comments on the tournament below if you were there
See you there next Wednesday? And of course, as ever, very welcome to join our next Caféschakers night next Monday at Master's Pub!
