The ghost of a chess genius part II
( CONTINUE...) When Koltanowski returned from Europe he shared this story with fellow chess enthusiats across the Nation in several publications and began being "bombed" by mail with the natural question: Who the young German genius was? According to his own words, after much research... he found out the solution! During WWII Dr. Alexander A. Alekhine, then Champion of the World, participated in a number of tournaments. In the year of 1942 he played a couple ones under the sponsorship of the Germany's Nazi Youth Association. There he met the 18 year old Klaus Junge (pictured) of Leipzig, who was acclaimed as future World Champion by the German press, and who was stabbed to death in a political brawl in the chess club he used to hanged out! Alekhine had great respect for his talent and he wasn't disappointed because that same year The Old Lion had a glimpse of the future...He perished in the German's hands with the White pieces and in 69 moves of a QGD ,in Salzburg.
