The Great Garbage Patch

Some beaches are covered in trash. The trash gets pulled in by the ocean. Animals eat the trash and then die. Currents bring the trash into something called The Great Garbage Patch.

The trash is ruining the underwater ecosystem. It's also effecting us.

Some people eat fish. The fish eat the plastic.

How can I help?

Well, let's say you throw a plastic water bottle into the trash. The bottle goes into the landfill. The wind picks it up and disposes it onto the beach. Then a wave comes and brings the water bottle into the ocean.

Thankfully, there is many ways to stop this from happening.

1. You could buy reuse the waterbottle instead of throwing it away

2. You could put it into the recycling bin instead of the trash

3. You could go out onto the beaches and take off the trash

4. Not all trash lands on beaches. They land in cities and forests. You could pick up trash anywhere

Remember, one plastic pollution today could kill a marine mammal tomorrow.

So that means that one plastic cleaned up today could save a marine mammal tomorrow. happy.png happy.png happy.png happy.png happy.png happy.png
